SEWERAGE PIPES (As Per IS 14333 : 1996)

HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE PIPES FOR SEWERAGE

HDPE Pipes for water supply are covered under IS 4984 but the need across for specific standard of HDPE Pipe for Sewerage / Industrial Effluents and thus IS 14333/1996 was adopted due to following reasons.

  • Pipes meant for sewerage and for industrial effuents are subjected to higher temperature and chemical reactions during its life.
  • The maximum specified allowable hydrostatic design stress for water supply pipe is at 30oC for a life of 50 years life and is used in the calculation of minimum wall thickness need modification in view of (a) above.
  • Pipes meant for water supply and for sewerage / industrial effuents need to be identified separately. These pipes are manufactured from 63mm to 1000 mm dia and in material grade PE 63, PE 80 & PE 100 in various pressure rating.
HDPE is basically chemically inert, this pipe system does not rust and corrode, this system resists chemical attack from aggressive soils. There is no need for protective layer or finishing process.
Butt fused joints create a homogenous system. The fusion weld for this system is very strong. Therefore, unlike ring type joints or the other mechanical jointing system, there is no risk of leakage resulting from joint distortion.
Smooth surface inside the pipe allows for a high Hazen - Williams “C” factor. “C” remains constant throughout the life span of the system due to its Innate high resistance to scale and us biological build up. Polyethylene (PE) is also biologically Inert.
Characteristics to withstand surges: the inherent properties of polyethylene allow the system to significantly lower the effect of surges compared to PVC and ductile iron system.
PE pipes can be coiled and supplied in length of upto 300m for small diameter pipes. this feature is on of the amny contributions to cost saving during the installation process.
PE piping system have inherent resistance to ground temperature fluctuations and earth instability.
Allowed virtually eliminated failure due to freezing pipes.

REDUCED INSTALLATION COSTS
